The young Red Flames finished their final group stage match in stunning fashion. In a crazy quarter of an hour in the second half, 5 goals fell, and, unfortunately, not all of it is in favor of the Belgians. The Austrians maintained their lead in the gallery of goals. A 3-3 draw meant last place in the group and a logical elimination at the European Championships.
Objectives:
11′ Rucavina: 1-0
48′ Jacobs: 1-1
50 wet feet: 2-1 (p)
56′ Speaker: 2-2
59′ Madl: 3-2
60′ Detroit: 3-3
Goals, goals and more goals. The Red Flames Under-19s knew what they had to do to have a water chance in the knockout stage: beat Austria by four goals.
But scoring – as in previous group matches – was very difficult for the Belgians in the first half. The Flames didn’t get small chances and long shots.
To make matters worse, Austria did so in part thanks to negligence in defending Belgian women. Rukavina slammed hard past the desperate goalkeeper. The score 1-0 at half time gave Hope a huge blow.
When the break was followed by a huge push immediately after Jacobs’ equalizer, the Belgians seemed to once again believe in a trick. Despite their offensive zeal, they forgot to lock the door in the back.
In a crazy quarter of an hour, 4 more targets followed. The Flames again knocked their scores down very easily, but they showed they had a knack for getting the opposition goal down.
In the end, the Belgians wanted to hit and top the Austrian girls, but the winning goal kept hitting the goalkeeper.
Due to a 3-3 tie, both teams were eliminated. The Netherlands beat Germany 3-1, so our neighboring countries advanced to the semi-finals.
