Drenthe hackers who want to express their creativity through electronics, soldering, 3D printing, laser cutting, imaging, robotics and other applications will have the opportunity from April 2. Then the first pirate space in that county is opened in Coforden.
On Saturday 2 April at 13:37:42 p.m. opens Aldermann Stegen of Coforden The Hackerspace Drenthe† Located in Fablab on Nieuwe Veste Coevorden.
We welcome interested parties on that day between 12:30 and 17:00 to learn about the possibilities that the venue offers.
“At Fablab Coevorden, we have a huge workshop with machines, 3D printers, laser cutters, waterjet cutters, HoloLens headphones, robots, etc.,” says Tweaker veltnet. He says he’s been working with a small team for two years to create the hacking space. “At the end of March 2021 we visited a notary to establish Hackerspace Drenthe Foundation. The board consists of four people. Then Corona came and everything stopped.”
Tweaker veltnet moved from The Hague to Drenthe three years ago. “In The Hague I had my own private space for pirates with a few friends: Theo’s Mechanische Aap. I was there almost every evening. After moving, I discovered that in my village Emmer-Compascuum there weren’t many people with whom I could talk about obsessive things. At first I had a plan to start a hacking space in my roof. It turns out that it wasn’t a good idea, because I have a lot of spam and where do I put all this stuff?”
In the end, it turns out that there are about a dozen people who are excited to start a hacking space in Drenthe. The Falablab at Coevorden welcomed them with open arms. “Fablab was just getting started. It has a lot of nice machines, but it lacks technicians to do fun things with all these machines. Controlling the laser cutter isn’t that hard, but controlling the robot quickly becomes quite technical.”
The space has so far been open to the 10 active members on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. With the official opening on April 2, they hope to attract more members and be able to open up more. “We hope to have at least 30 members by the end of the year.” During the opening day, there will be a lecture on computer security by Jochen den Auden, a digital treasure hunt through the building, a drone flight demonstration, escape room chests, and a demonstration of lock selection. Also, users can cut the keychain with a laser cutting machine.
The hacking space at Fablab Coevorden can be found on Van Heekerenlaan 2, with the entrance at Graaf van Heiden Reinesteinlaan in Coevorden.
