Read the official message from the city of Leuven here:
Since its inception in 2015, Het Groot Verlof has grown into a concept in the wider Leuven region. Big outdoor events with music in different styles, pleasant atmosphere and great get-togethers always attract a lot of Leuven residents and regional residents to the city center during the summer months. The formula has remained unchanged throughout this time. This is changing now, with a temporary Vishal on Vismarkt and a later expiration time.
“Groot Verlof – the summer tradition with various events such as Beleuvenissen, Hapje Tapje, Half Harvest… – has always had one goal: to make Leuven bustling during the summer months,” said Mayor Mohammad Rizwani. Of course we do not deviate from that. But after six very successful releases, we’re strengthening the formula for success with some innovations.”
Vishal
?The biggest innovation happens at Vismarkt, where DJs are always programmed during Beleuvenissen. Mayor Rezvani said, “We want to prepare biofenesin for the future, and that’s why we go back to the past.” Between 1884 and the early 1970s, there was a beautiful fish market on the Vismarkt. With the impressive construction of metal and light, we want to revitalize the historic Fish Hall and create a unique dance venue where established names and young talents can show off their DJ skills.”
Extra space for small activities and events
?The builder will remain there for the full three weeks of Beleuvenissen. In this way, the city of Leuven also creates space for other organizers, associations or local merchants who want to use the space that has become available in the Vismarkt and the temporary fish hall to organize an event or activity. “There is definitely a children’s disco and a ball for adults in the schedule,” says Mayor Rezvani. “And is there space for a gourmet market, a picnic, and dance lessons…”
Due to construction in the Vismarkt, there will be fewer parking spaces in the Vismarkt for three weeks. Two-thirds of the plaza’s parking spaces will still be available. The city will also develop a promotional campaign for Parking Vaartkom.
until the late hours
?The end time will also change this summer. From now on, the music stops at 1am only, instead of 12:30. It’s an answer to the biggest sigh from the audience: “Why stop so early?” Mayor Rezvani said. This applies not only to Vismarkt, but also to Oude Markt. As a result, three large scales can be programmed instead of two. More news about the program itself will follow soon.
