After the Russian reconnaissance drone was spotted above the water stations, the delegation members had to quickly return to the armored vehicles of their convoy. Such drones usually precede a Russian air strike. When the Burbuk convoy left, the reconnaissance drone initially followed, then eventually moved away.
Shortly after the convoy left, air raid sirens were heard in Mykolaiv. After more than fifteen minutes it was uploaded again.
Just before the accident, Baerbock announced in Mykolaiv that Germany would allocate an additional 100 million euros for humanitarian aid in Ukraine: money earmarked for rebuilding water supplies, hospitals and homes. The minister said that the total German humanitarian aid to the country invaded by Russia will reach one billion euros.
On Saturday evening, Burbock had to take shelter while visiting the coastal city of Odessa, about 130 kilometers west of Mykolaiv, because air raid sirens sounded for about twenty minutes. Shortly after, an explosion was heard in the Odessa area. It is not clear whether it was a Russian missile strike or a Ukrainian missile defense system.
Shortly before Berbock's visit to Odessa, four more people were killed and several others injured in two Russian drone attacks in the city.
