“Avatar: The Way of Water” was originally planned for 2014, but production has been delayed seven times in the past eight years. Fortunately, the end is in sight. The sequel to “Avatar” will hit theaters December 16. Ten years after the events of the first film, The Way of Water focuses on the Sully family. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana reprise their roles from the first film, as do Sigourney Weaver and Giovanni Ribsi. New additions to the cast include Kate Winslet, Vin Diesel, and Michelle Yeoh.
The original “Avatar” was released in 2009 and was an instant hit. Not only could it be seen in cinemas for ten months, but it also brought in no less than $284,7379794 in earnings. An absolute record, with “Avatar” doing better than “Avengers: Endgame” and “Titanic”, among others. And “Avatar: The Way of Water” isn’t the last movie in the series. A total of three sequences are expected. The dates for these films have already been announced. The third film will be released on December 20, 2024, the fourth on December 18, 2026 and the last on December 22, 2028. The shooting of the third film was also supposed to be completed. James Cameron himself announced this in an interview with Variety. For example, the director had collected the recordings of the second and third films. A number of scenes have already been prepared for the fourth film.
