Visma-Lease a Bike has to swallow all the epidemics that befell Egypt this spring. Dutch champion Dylan van Baarle is “not feeling well” due to stomach problems and is out an hour before the start of Paris-Roubaix. Won the Inferno of the North in 2022.
The spring of 2024 is certainly worthy of a documentary, but unfortunately its content will not be positive for Visma-Lease a Bike.
The first Dutch team wanted to shine in monuments during this period. The Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix are still missing from the team's roll of honours.
But after leader Wout van Aart withdrew, the chances took a major hit.
Visma-Lease a Bike also saw other pawns such as Christophe Laporte, Jan Tratnik, Tsij Pinot and Mathieu Jorgenson fall by the wayside.
It seemed that all hope for Roubaix lay with Dylan van Baarl, but this morning another blow followed.
The Dutch champion fell ill just before Dwars Door Vlaanderen, but took part in the round as he caught a cold.
He appeared to be back to normal after his appearance in the cobbled Clásico, until a report came this morning that he was unwell. Van Baarle exits due to stomach problems.
In defense of the yellows today: Laporte, Julien Vermot, Per Strand Hagenis, Tim and Mick van Dijk, and Edoardo Afeni.
