The Netherlands had great success in their latest European Championship qualifier. Against Gibraltar, Calvin Stings was crowned man of the match with three roses. The Dutch national team had already qualified for the European Championship.
An experimental and enthusiastic Dutch team had fun at Gibraltar’s midget football stadium.
Old acquaintance Calvin Stings (last season in Antwerp) opened the score after 10 minutes and put two more balls into the basket after half-time.
Thanks to his hat-trick, Stings was able to reach a select club of Dutch players who had done so before him since 2000: Patrick Kluivert, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Robin van Persie (2x), Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay.
In the draw that will take place on December 2, the Netherlands will disappear into Pot 3, accompanied by Croatia, among other countries. Both countries are therefore potential rivals for the Red Devils in the group stage.
