The Netherlands now also face England’s deadly Iceland, while Poland sees Lewandowski withdraw

If there were any questions about the Netherlands’ form at the European Championship, they were all swept away last week.

Four days after an impressive 4-0 win over Canada, another crushing win followed in De Kuip. Iceland were defeated tonight by the same score.

Xavi Simons was the first to score the goal. The scoring opened midway through the first half. Shortly after half-time, Virgil van Dijk made it 2-0, his second goal in as many games.

Substitutes Donnell Malen and Voit Weghorst caused a small celebration at the end of the match by scoring the third and fourth goals. The Dutch team bid farewell to its fans in an ideal way.

Although the euphoria was short-lived: shortly after the match, the Dutch Football Association announced that Frenkie de Jong would definitely miss the European Championship due to an ankle injury.

Things were also bad for the Barcelona player in Warsaw. Half an hour later, Robert Lewandowski entered the locker room injured.

Earlier in that practice match, Swiderski had also been clumsily injured while celebrating a goal. Swiderski, in turn, was a substitute in the Polish squad for the injured Milik.

Despite all these setbacks, Poland has stopped dealing with Türkiye. Swiderski pushed the score 1-0 through the goalkeeper’s legs before his ill-fated celebration.

Baris Yilmaz equalized again in the 77th minute, but in the 90th minute Zalewski continued to provide the Polish push.

It is not yet known how bad the situation will be for the players who have withdrawn. In Poland, they hope that Lewandowski can participate against the in-form Netherlands in the first match of the European Championship.
