Charleroi Airport in Belgium saw the number of passengers double in July 2021 compared to the same month last year. This is mainly thanks to travelers to Morocco, Italy, Spain, France and Greece.
Charleroi Airport recorded 558,328 passengers in July, compared to 241,234 passengers in the same month of 2020. Compared to July 2019 before the Corona crisis, this number is still 31% lower. But in the eyes of the directors of Brussels South Charleroi Airport (BSCA), these are the “first encouraging results” since March 2020 and the start of the Corona pandemic.

Charleroi Airport owes this result to the most popular destinations for travelers. The top five destinations in July of this year were Italy, Spain, France, Morocco and Greece.

This summer, BSCA said in a statement that the airport will operate an average of 140 daily flights to more than 200 destinations. “July has demonstrated that the demand for travel has returned. At least eight new routes have opened this summer and an additional eight cities will be served from our airport this winter. We must continue these efforts to stabilize the situation and restore a return to normal,” said Philip Verdonk, president. Brussels South Charleroi Airport CEO: “It’s a normal situation we all look forward to.”
