In California, USA, a pilot escaped death when his single-engine Cessna 172 crashed into the roof of an aircraft hangar at Long Beach Airport, south of Los Angeles. This was reported by the local authorities.
The FAA said in a statement that the accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. local time on Monday while the pilot was practicing repeated takeoffs and landings.
Pictures show that the plane had hit the hangar roof with its nose. The tail of the plane sticks out almost vertically in the air and one of the wings has broken off.
After the accident, the pilot, who was the only person on board, was freed from the wreckage. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. According to the fire service, about 45 liters of fuel leaked from the plane after it crashed.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
