A pilot has survived after his single-engine Cessna 172 crashed into the roof of a hangar at Long Beach Airport, south of Los Angeles, in California, USA. According to local authorities.
The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. local time Monday while the pilot was practicing multiple takeoffs and landings, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement.
Images show the plane hitting the roof of the hangar with its nose. The plane’s tail was sticking almost vertically into the air and one wing was broken.
After the crash, the only person on board had to free the pilot from the wreckage. He was hospitalized with minor injuries. The fire department said around 45 liters of fuel had leaked from the plane after the crash.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
