The Red Dragons didn’t get their first European Championship win without a fight. They seemed to be on their way to a 3-0 draw against Estonia, but in the third group the level collapsed like candy. The Belgian volleyball men survived the decline this time. Thanks to the three-pointer, they have already secured their ticket to the quarter-finals.
Suddenly I lost all control.
After the Red Dragons grabbed Estonia by the neck from the start of the match, there was nothing left of their dominance in the third set.
However, the Belgians played volleyball much better than their opponent. Playmaker Dolst got everyone involved in attack, and Belgium controlled everything defensively.
Up to a set of three, that is. A truckload of mistakes that were so easy created doubt. The Dragons also hit the Estonian block hard offensively. The agonizing 12-25 score seemed to be the turning point.
The turnaround that the Belgians suffered against Germany was not an option if they wanted to get a ticket to the 1/8 finals.
Therefore his character had to be corrected.
The Red Dragons approached their main striker Ferre Reggers for this. The twenty-year-old has led his team through devastating results in key moments. In Estonia the cheerful mood quickly disappeared.
With great fanfare, Riegers sealed the Estonians’ fate and, more importantly: finally gave the Belgians victory in the European Championship. This is also good for getting a ticket to the 1/8 Finals, because Switzerland can no longer get past the Dragons based on the given winning percentage.
A huge boost for the rest of the tournament.
