On Saturday, a spokesman for the Islamic regime announced that the Taliban had dissolved the Independent Electoral Commission of Afghanistan. The spokesman said that the Taliban “do not need the elections committee that was formed under the previous administration to organize the elections.”

The Taliban also ordered the dissolution of the Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) this week and the abolition of two ministries, the Ministry of Peace and the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
At the present time, it is not necessary for these ministries to exist and function. “The Islamic Emirate can restart it if necessary,” said Bilal Karim, deputy spokesman for the Taliban.
The Independent Electoral Commission was established in 2006, a few years after the fall of the former Taliban regime (1996-2001). “Without this organization, I am 100 percent sure that Afghanistan’s problems will never be resolved, because there will be no elections,” said Aurangzeb, who headed the electoral commission until the fall of the former regime. According to another senior official from the former regime, Halim Fidai, the decision shows that “the Taliban has not changed and does not believe in democracy.”
Soon after assuming power on August 15, the Taliban actually replaced the Ministry of Women’s Affairs with the Ministry for the Promotion of Feared Virtue.
