Last year, the United States exported $ 177 billion worth of agricultural and food products. This is 18 percent more than the Corona year 2020, when international trade faced major traffic problems.
The new record is 15 percent higher than the previous record year of 2014. The United States is the largest agricultural exporter in the world. In second place is the Netherlands, which recently set a new export record.
Countries such as China, Mexico, Canada, South Korea, the Philippines and Colombia bought more U.S. agricultural products than ever before, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. Exports of US soybeans, corn, beef, pork, milk and grains in particular are on the rise.
Rural stimulation
“This will boost agricultural exports to the economy as a whole, and especially to our rural communities,” said US Agriculture Secretary Tom Wilsack (pictured). The agri-food sector provides 1.3 million US jobs.
China imported $ 33 billion worth of U.S. soybeans and other agricultural products last year, up 25 percent from 2020. This achievement is partly due to the agreement that former President Donald Trump made with that country. Incumbent President Joe Biden has very little sympathy for China.
