The World Health Organization is concerned about the peak of Corona in China: more than a million deaths are expected | abroad

The World Health Organization (WHO) is very concerned about the rise in coronavirus cases in China. The UN agency supports the government’s efforts to vaccinate particularly vulnerable groups and is asking Beijing to provide detailed information on the severity of the disease’s symptoms, the number of hospitalizations and the status in intensive care units.

It is not clear how many infections and casualties there are in the world’s second largest economy. There have been reports recently of people not receiving treatment and of crematoriums and funeral homes working overtime due to the many deaths. Much of this is not reflected in the official figures, which indicate that no more than a dozen people have died from Covid this month.

Projections indicate that China may witness an explosion of infections and more than a million deaths due to Corona next year. “WHO is very concerned about the changing situation in China, with increasing reports of serious diseases,” Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a news conference.

Michael Ryan, a top official at the World Health Organization, asked if China might be struggling to obtain updated data on the Corona situation. He suggested that the released data may not reflect reality. Ryan encouraged China to work on importing Western vaccines, which offer better protection.
