VUmc Hospital in Amsterdam cannot receive ambulances all weekend. According to a spokesperson, this is due to the timelines not being completed. So it was decided to divert the ambulances to another location in Amsterdam UMC, AMC.
VUmc’s alleged trauma room is also unavailable this weekend. This is the room where trauma patients, like traffic victims, are treated. The spokesperson said that people who come alone can still go to the hospital.
Ambulances will be diverted to the other location of the UMC in Amsterdam or to hospitals elsewhere until 8:00 am on Monday.
No consequences for patients
According to the spokesperson, this has no further consequences for patients. “We treat the same number of patients, just the classification of care is a little different.”
It is common for hospitals to take measures due to staff shortages and illness. For example, ambulances will leave Langeland Hospital in Zoetermeer in the evening and night from October 1 due to staff shortages. Antonius Hospital in Sneek closed one of its four operating rooms in August due to the large number of sick staff.
