The Belgian national champion seems almost certain to get a direct ticket to the group stage of the Champions League in the coming years. With an additional 1,200 points in the coefficient rankings, Belgium is in a slightly stronger position in eighth place.
Club Brugge had the biggest contribution with wins over Lugano (+0.400) and the certainty of the European winter (+0.200). KAA Gent also contributed with the win in Iceland (+0.400). With a draw against Ferencvaros, Genk added another 0,200 points.
Despite defeats by Antwerp in the Champions League and Al-Ittihad in the Europa League, Belgium performed better in the fourth round of the first match than Turkey, but also Portugal, Scotland, the Netherlands and France.
The top ten in the UEFA rankings get a direct ticket to the Champions League. With Belgium now closer to No. 7 Portugal than to No. 9 Turkey, Belgian teams can rub their hands.
Last year our country was ranked 13th in the world rankings. With our sensational 2017-18 European season gone (barely 2,600 points), Belgium started the current campaign in 10th place by default.
