“There is no indication that the Russians will use nuclear weapons,” says CIA | abroad

The CIA has no indication that Russia is preparing to use tactical nuclear weapons in the war in Ukraine. CIA Director William Burns said this at a conference on Saturday.

According to CIA Director William Burns, “at this time” there is no concrete evidence that the Russians intend to deploy tactical nuclear weapons or prepare for their potential use. However, he also emphasized that he did not want it to be too light, given Russian war propaganda.

Moscow itself had rejected the day before speculation about the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine. According to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there are clear guidelines on its use: “They do not apply to achieving the goals established in the framework of the special military operation in Ukraine.” The use of nuclear weapons would only be a problem if Russia’s survival was threatened.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sees it differently. He said that Russia would not hesitate to deploy nuclear weapons in its country. Russian President Vladimir Putin put nuclear forces on alert shortly after the invasion. He also did not rule out the use of weapons in threats that almost cover up.
