Club Brugge performed modestly in the first half of the season, but the level has clearly risen in recent weeks. Many players were also able to stand individually. Not least Igor Thiago.
Last summer, Club Brugge paid about 8 million euros to sign the Brazilian striker. Not an unreasonable move, after all, as Thiago has shown a lot of promise at his former club Ludogorets. His debut in West Flanders was also more than decent.
However, the engine then stopped for the 22-year-old striker. Thiago has always worked hard and has simply underperformed. Moreover, he made increasingly glaring mistakes. After his poor match against Oh Lovin, the criticism reached its peak.
Twenty goals this season
But for Thiago, that match was a turning point. A few days later, he scored two goals during a conference league match against Besiktas. Since then, the Brazilian striker has not been able to compete at all.
Since his brace in TΓΌrkiye, Thiago has scored in every match. Except against KV Mechelen, when the VAR denied him a justified goal. The summer signing has now scored 20 goals in 34 competitive matches for Blue Zwart.
The new crowd favorite
An impressive recovery and the striker is now being rewarded for it. For example, Blau Zwart announced via the club's official channels that Igor Thiago had been voted Player of the Month in December. The striker has completely captured the hearts of Brugge, and in the new calendar year it will be important to confirm his good form.
