Thibau Nys will have to wait a little longer for his first title among the professionals.
Expectations for our citizen were high, but they were not met. Nice had to chase from the start during the European Championship and threw in the towel before the end.
“This European Championship was like a big day off,” he said afterwards. “I already felt in the first round that there was almost nothing in my legs. “I fought the first three rounds, but I fell more and more.”
To make matters worse, our compatriot eventually suffered a flat tire.
“Then it’s over for me,” Ness said disappointedly. “I wanted to finish the cross, but it suddenly turned out to be impossible. I think the Koppenberg was still in my leg and the relay races also took their toll.”
A missed opportunity for Nice, who has been mooted as one of the favorites to win the European title.
“It’s a shame, because this race was supposed to suit me, but of course I wouldn’t say I regret riding the Koppenberg Cross.”
What will the next few weeks hold for Nice?
“I think I have to get the World Cup rankings out of my mind,” he added. “This way I can start the other races better. If I’m fresh, I can compete with the best. If I’m not recovered enough, I won’t succeed.”
“I now have to reset myself and see how I will approach the upcoming races. My age will also play a role here. This is part of the learning process I go through as a racer.”
