This electric SUV comes to tease the Tesla Model Y

The BYD Seal U is a Class D electric SUV that measures 4.78 meters in length. This is roughly the length of a Tesla Model Y (4.75 metres). The range is also comparable: the BYD Seal U can travel up to 500 kilometers on a full battery Tesla Model Y up to 533 kilometers. Both are suitable for five passengers and both have a large central display measuring about 15 inches.

The Tesla Model Y has a list price of 46,990 euros. It is not yet known how much the BYD Seal U will cost. The electric SUV will debut in Europe at the IAA Motor Show in early September. By the way, it is no longer being held in Frankfurt, but in Munich.

The U in the model name stands for “Utility”, which roughly translates to “useful/usable”. BYD He says his new electric SUV “features maximum versatility” and the luggage compartment is “spacious.” The number of liters is still a guess. BYD also talks about a “very high level of security”.

BYD Seal U Collection

A range of 500 kilometers is part of the 87 kWh battery pack. Those who are satisfied with less range can opt for the 71.8 kWh version. Then the BYD Seal U has a range of 420 kilometers. The versions are called Design and Comfort, respectively. Rapid charging is possible with a power of 115 kW (design) or 140 kW (comfort).

The BYD Seal U is equipped with a 218-horsepower electric motor that drives the front wheels. This is not at all in line with the Tesla Model Y, which is mainly rear-wheel drive and has an even bigger 347 horsepower. The Tesla Model Y accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. Its Chinese competitor takes less than 10 seconds to do so.

BYD Seal U Delivery Time

BYD Seal U is expected to be introduced to the Dutch market in the first quarter of 2024. It is the third electric SUV offered by BYD in our country. The others are the smallest BYD Auto 3 And the biggest BYD Tang7-seater electric car.
