Due to the combination of wet and warm weather, we can soon expect a real explosion of mosquitoes. So we welcome all tips to keep those unfortunate pesky animals away from you. What does it look like? New research shows that the soap you use may also affect your attraction to mosquitoes.
The researchers who published their study in the journal iScienceTest subjects washed with four soaps commonly used in the United States: Dove, Dial, Native, and Simple Truth. The people who washed using the dove and simple fact seemed to become more attractive to mosquitoes, while the natives had the opposite result.

Thus, the scientists concluded that people can use soap to change the odor characteristics and ward off mosquitoes. But what kind of scented soap works best? Coconut-scented soap is a good idea if you don’t want to be kept up all night by buzzing mosquitoes. Coconut oil appears to be a natural mosquito repellent, according to the study. On the other hand, it is better to avoid floral scents, because mosquitoes love them.
Unfortunately, there is no guarantee of results, the researchers say, because the people’s own scent can still counteract the soap’s effect. However, trying a new mosquito repelling soap never hurts!
