A few months ago, Toby Alderweireld was named a Golden Boot for his amazing year 2023. The photo that was published during that period is now causing a stir. A political riot, if you will.
Toby Alderweireld is the new face against online hate speech. This is a campaign by ComeTogether, where Belgian football stands together against hateful comments and the like across the world wide web.
Green Party politician in Brussels, Juan Benjomia Morena, then took to social media to express his disgust that Alderweireld himself had his photo taken last summer with Tom van Grieken, the president of Het Vlaams Belang.
Political riot?
He reposted the image in question in January, congratulating Alderweireld as a fellow Antwerp resident on his Golden Boot. There was no uproar over the image at the time, and it is even more so now due to the campaign against hate speech.

Juan Benjomia Morena immediately got wind of it from lawyer Stijn Francis, Alderweireld's mediator. says in The newspaper The following: βToby has had his photo taken a thousand times at such public events. Does he always have to ask for a party membership card or check with everyone what he has announced on his social media?
According to Benjomia Morena, it is not about politics, because he is no longer running for office: βI am not running for office anymore. I am concerned about the rise of racism and the far right.β
