Traveling to the US with AirBaltic?

AirBaltic has filed a claim with the US Department of Transportation (DOT). The airline is investigating whether it can operate flights to the US.

In Request AirBaltic is seeking permission to operate charter or scheduled flights to the United States. Currently, the airline is only partially allowed to sell flights to the US Code sharing– Agreement. The airline currently has such agreements with Delta Airlines and Icelandair.

It is not yet known where AirBaltic intends to operate flights from. With the company's current fleet, direct flights from the Baltic states are impossible. An Airbus A220 must make at least one stopover from a state to reach the US. So the airline further specifies Open skiesAgreement on request for DOT. That agreement would allow flights from other countries to the United States. The A220 can reach many destinations directly from airports in countries such as the United Kingdom and Ireland.

To do research

AirBaltic confirms that the request has been submitted, but does not want to reveal more. “The application has been submitted to explore the airline's capabilities in this market and to secure the necessary documents if plans are confirmed,” an airline spokesperson said.
