Federal prosecutors have obtained a 2021 audio recording of Donald Trump in which the former US president admitted to having a secret Pentagon document on an attack on Iran after he left the White House. This was reported by the American newspaper ‘CNN’ today. CNN itself did not ask for the recording, but cited some unidentified sources.
The record shows that after leaving the White House in 2021, Trump understood that he was keeping confidential material. Trump’s comments indicated he wanted to share that classified information, but realized it would be difficult to make the documents public after his presidency ended.
The recording will be part of a lengthy meeting in the summer of 2021, roughly six months after Trump leaves the presidency. In it he was reportedly discussing an article in ‘The New Yorker’ in which top US Army General Mark Milley worried that Trump could “unlawfully start a large-scale conflict that is unjustified”. Order military action against Iran.
The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating whether Trump violated the law by protecting U.S. government documents after he resigned from the presidency. Peter Carr, a spokesman for the office of special counsel Jack Smith, who is leading the investigation, declined to comment, CNN reported.

The searches come after a dispute between Trump and the National Archives, which has been asking for months to hand over documents from the former president’s tenure. That’s what every president should do.
Trump continues to deny any wrongdoing. Steven Cheung, a representative of the former president, declined to comment for this Post’s report, saying the investigation was politically motivated. Cheung said yesterday that such “leaks from extremists” were designed to “inflame tensions and continue threats against Trump and his supporters”.
