Remember his name: Jente Hauttekeete (19) is the new Belgian indoor champion. He beat out other big talent Jef Misplom. Han Modens (24) is victorious among the women. In a sense, it was the debuts for both: Maudens was back all over the place after a year of the 400m, and Hauttekeete joined the seniors for the first time in the Ghent.
Modnes had previously expressed its ambition to qualify for the World Cup in Belgrade, but it did not come close to that. With 4,212 points, it was well below her best in the quintet, which stands at 4,569 points. The 60m hurdles were a solid 8.74, and the 1m 70 high jump was just under. The shot put was on par with the 13m 42, and the long jump was a bit disappointing with the 6m 10. 800m in particular wasn’t convincing in 2:25.00.
In the men’s category, the 19-year-old Uteketi was hoping to score over the 5,680 points he eventually earned and put him in eighth place in the Belgian all-time standings. The 60m was good with 7.06, and a solid long jump with the 7m 16. The throw was a huge disappointment with the 13m 66, and the high jump with the 2m2 wasn’t entirely convincing either. In the 60m hurdles Hauttekeete had a personal best of 8.29, the pole vault was also good with 4m 60. The 1000m was a bit disappointing as she scored 2:52.74.
