UK heatwave: Temperatures soar to 32C

With temperatures expected to reach 32C in some areas, the threshold is within reach.

Temperatures are not expected to drop below 25C in large parts of the country, making it a prolonged heatwave rather than a short spell of warm weather. The exceptions will be the far north-west of Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland, which could see some cloud and possibly rain on Monday and Tuesday.

But despite the sudden heatwave, temperatures are set to take a dramatic turn towards the end of the week. Severe thunderstorms are forecast for Wednesday, although it is still uncertain whether they will just hit southern England or other parts of the UK too.

Despite the sudden showers, temperatures are expected to remain high through the first week of August, with Mr Partridge of the Met Office saying: “A bit of summer is on the horizon.”
