Ukraine and Russia again exchange prisoners of war | Ukraine and Russia war

Ukraine and Russia exchanged prisoners of war again. Andrey Germak, the head of the presidential office in Kyiv, posted this on Twitter on Wednesday.

36 soldiers, 6 officers and civilians were delivered to Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry said it had recovered 40 soldiers. They are already on a plane to Moscow.

No negotiation point

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, about 2,300 Ukrainian prisoners of war have been delivered to Ukraine. The numbers for Russians are less clear. In any case, the exchange of prisoners of war is the only area in which Russia and Ukraine are still negotiating regularly.

torture

Last week, Ukraine’s human rights commissioner reported that his country had “dozens” of videos of executions and torture of its citizens in Russian captivity. In an interview with Ukrajinska Pravda, Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubenev accused the Kremlin of systematically violating the Geneva Conventions. That treaty protects prisoners of war, but the videos allegedly show images of “beheadings, cutting off of genitals, ears, noses, limbs, and fingers.” Many of the perpetrators in the photos are said to have already been identified. At least one of them was killed in combat.
