The Ukrainian army has been battling Russian forces that invaded the country since Thursday. An international corps of volunteers must help defend the country. “Anyone who wants to join the defense of Ukraine, Europe and the world can fight side by side with the Ukrainians against Russian war criminals,” the Ukrainian president said. Zelensky spoke of “the most important proof of your support for our country.” He also stated that he would give weapons to volunteers from abroad.

A group of ten special forces veterans is already gathering in Poland and preparing to cross the border into Ukraine – “to join the defense of Ukraine, Europe and the world.”

The group consists of six Americans, three Britons and one German, has been trained by NATO and has a lot of experience close combat and combating terrorism. They want to be among the first to officially join the New International Legion.

Enthusiastic

The news is already being greeted enthusiastically by members of the Georgia National Corps, an English-speaking unit of volunteers with Western military experience who trains Ukrainian forces and sometimes joins them on the front lines. “We’ve been waiting for this. It’s very good news,” Levan Pepia, a veteran Georgian Legion and Army in the 2008 war with Russia, told BuzzFeed.

On Sunday, during a press conference, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba invited interested foreigners to contact foreign Ukrainian diplomatic missions in their countries. “Their access to Ukraine will be facilitated as much as possible.”

Kuleba concluded his speech by saying: “Together we defeated Hitler, and we will defeat Putin too.”
