“US learned about Ukrainian plans to blow up Nord Stream pipeline” | outside

Three months before the Nord Stream pipeline explosion, the United States learned of a detailed Ukrainian plan to attack the pipeline. The Washington Post reported this on Tuesday, referring to documents leaked online.

The CIA learned last June through a European spy service that a team of six Ukrainian special forces was planning to blow up the natural gas link between Russia and Germany, the paper reported.

The report from the European intelligence service was shared on the Discord chat platform, presumably by Jacques Teixeira, a 21-year-old soldier who worked as a computer and communications expert in the US Air Force. He is suspected of leaking thousands of confidential documents. The Washington Post says it received a copy of the report from one of Teixeira’s chat friends.

The intelligence, which includes details of the number of agents involved and attack methods, was based on information provided by a person from Ukraine, the newspaper said, saying the CIA shared the report with Germany and other European countries in June last year. This means that the Western allies have had reason to suspect Kiev of sabotage for almost a year now.

According to the newspapers, officials in several countries have confirmed that the summary of information distributed via Discord corresponds to the intelligence that the European agency released with the CIA.

In September 2022, the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Steam 2 pipelines connecting Russia and Germany in the Baltic Sea are damaged in explosions. The bombings occurred in the economic zones of Sweden and Denmark. Both countries say the bombings occurred on purpose, but have not yet determined who was responsible. They are investigating the incident with Germany.

The United States and NATO describe the incident as “sabotage”. Russia blames the West. So far, no country has provided official evidence of who was behind the attacks.
