Hoare was assigned last January to investigate how the president and his lawyer handled secret documents when he was vice president under Barack Obama between 2009 and 2017. These documents were found late last year in Biden’s garage and home in Delaware. And in Biden’s private office at a research center in Washington.
Biden is not suspected of a criminal offense, and US media have reported that it is not unusual for a president to be the subject of a federal investigation. Nothing has been revealed about what Biden said to Hoare in recent days. The official spokesman merely said that the president is fully cooperating with the investigation.
Hoare has interviewed 100 witnesses in recent months, from high-level advisers to executive aides and at least one White House lawyer, according to ABC News. Some were reportedly asked to return for follow-up interviews.
The discovery of secret documents in Biden’s home is a sensitive issue in the United States due to the criminal case filed against former President Donald Trump. Boxes filled with confidential documents were found at his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach. Trump says he’s innocent, and a judge likely won’t hear the case until next year.
