Half of the Flemish postpone the purchase of a car. The main reason is that they don’t know whether to choose an electric car, a hybrid or a car with a combustion engine. This is evidenced by the mobility organization VAB’s Mobility Scale, an online survey of 2,000 Flemish people.

Among respondents who put off a purchase, 47 percent said they did so because they had doubts about what a car’s engine would look like. Other reasons are that they are using their cars less due to the Corona crisis (30 per cent) or they have to wait so long to get a new car (6 per cent).
Remarkably, long waiting times play a role in particular among young people. Young people are also a little suspicious of what type of drive they should choose.
Furthermore, 27% of respondents indicated that they would buy a used car in the near future. Young people in particular choose a used car: 42 percent of 18-24 year olds and 38 percent of 25-34 year olds. In addition, 35 percent of respondents chose a new car and 8 percent for a company car. About a quarter of those surveyed do not yet know what they would choose.
If you buy a used car, most often choose the classic drive type. This is because people are unsure about the show in the future and therefore make a “safe choice,” as VAB explains. When choosing a new car, people often choose 100 percent electric or hybrid (electrically connected) cars.
