He could have had interest from England, but Brian Rimmer has extended his contract with Anderlecht until 2026. Football analyst Peter Vandenbempt questions this in extra time. “Reimer has not achieved any achievements in recent months that other clubs might have noticed,” he says.
Anyone who compares Anderlecht on the first day of the match to the team that faced Club Brugge on the eighth day of the match will see a completely different team standing between the lines.
However, the level of purple and white has not yet undergone the same revolution. However, coach Brian Reimer’s expiring contract has been extended until 2026.
“Isn’t this to bring peace to the tent and avoid the troubles and questions that are asked every week?” says analyst Peter Vandenbempt in Extra Time.
“I can’t imagine Anderlecht entering into a contract that would cost them a lot of money if Rimmer was sacked. That wouldn’t be good policy.”
Reimer’s management have shown interest from Championship clubs, and Premier League clubs are also said to be interested in the Dane to become an assistant.
Vandenemppt wonders about those “stories.” “Reimer has not achieved any achievements in recent months that other clubs might have noticed,” he says. “It’s hard for me to imagine that.”
I can’t imagine Anderlecht penning a contract that would cost them a lot of money if Remer was sacked. This would not be good policy.
Youri Mulder sees no problem with Anderlecht’s approach. “With the end of the contract you have to start talking at some point. If you are convinced that Rimmer will remain coach, why wait?”
“But on what basis is Anderlecht convinced?” Vandenbempt wonders. “Things are better than they were 6 or 7 years ago,” Mulder answers.
Vandenbempt: “It is a completely different team than it was 6 years ago. It is no longer the team that Vincent Kompany had to coach.”
“Friedberg undermines Remer’s authority”
The fact that CEO Jesper Fredberg and coach Brian Riemer form a very close tandem also raises questions in extra time.
“It’s too lonely,” says Vandenemppt. “Friedberg himself says he does not give direct instructions or substitutions, but the perception alone undermines the coach’s credibility and authority.”
“Now there is a perception that Friedberg determines a lot of what happens. This may be a mistake for Brian Rimmer.”
Is the Dane out of place at Anderlecht? “He’s loved by the players,” Vandenemppt said. “And when he arrived, he was the perfect coach. His positivity and optimism brought a breath of fresh air into the club and made everyone believe in themselves.”
