Hein Vanheisbrück still believes in it: ‘This is an opportunity’
It has already been whispered here and there that AA Gent has given up on the Europa League group stage after 0-2 from the first leg. After all, he’s at least coveted into the group stage of the Conference League anyway and could provide some strength for the competition. Hein Vanhaezebrouck is waving that away.
“Obviously we are not going to calculate and work hard for the Europa League. Our strategy is very clear after the first leg. We have to score at least twice and I won’t wait long to start.”
According to Vanheisbrück, he did not test himself that he corrected 0-2 in the second leg in Europe. “When you go out, people will say it’s sad that Ghent is unable to qualify, but that certainty about the Conference League will soon be gone.”
“But if I can qualify, it will be a match that will stay with me for a long time. Like our duel in Konyaspor, with that goal in the last minute. This is for my players to play such an unforgettable match.”
