Max Verstappen rested second in Sunday’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix in Brazil. The Red Bull driver admitted that Lewis Hamilton was the best in his Mercedes.
“I did everything and really tried everything to keep him behind, but I was too slow,” Max Verstappen told Dutch channel Zigo Sport after the race.
“Mercedes had a new engine and they got out of it faster this weekend. We were faster in Mexico last week and I think we’ll be even closer together in the next races.”
“I should be happy with this second place. It’s a great result and it gave me important points again.”
“We were racing”
Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton once again turned it into a violent duel at Interlagos.
The two giants drove through the corner on lap 48 when Hamilton was skipping the road and both almost veered off the track. Race management investigated the accident, but found no reason to penalize Verstappen, who may have given Hamilton too little space.
“I don’t know what they should have decided differently,” Verstappen says. “We were racing.”
Max Verstappen remains the leader in the World Cup site. He saw his lead over Lewis Hamilton shrink to 14 points.
