Arne Slott’s style of play does not resemble Jurgen Klopp’s. That was the opinion of Harvey Elliott, who was delighted with his new coach’s input. ‘You see clear patterns and the players are keen to show that in games.’
Elliott started last weekend in a friendly against Real Betis. Ahead of the friendly with Arsenal, the 21-year-old midfielder discussed changes under the slot. The former Feyenoord coach eventually took over from Klopp at Anfield this summer.
Klopp’s style of play is known Heavy Metal Football. It’s different under the slot. “It’s very elegant, very Dutch,” Elliott analyzed on the BBC. ‘I think it’s really good and we’re working hard on it. It’s about possession, which is different than what we’re used to. You see clear patterns and players are excited to show it in games. The environment is good.’
The next test is against Arsenal Red. “It’s a fresh start for everybody,” Elliott continued. “Honestly, I think we will finish it soon. We saw in the last match that there were some moments when the football was going well. But that’s just the preparation. Even if something doesn’t work immediately, we have to keep going. Everything is new.’
Liverpool’s match against Arsenal takes place from Wednesday to Thursday night (Dutch time). Kick-off at 1:30am in Philadelphia.
