Among the promises, Victor Verchaff won a stage in the prestigious Tour de Savoie Mont Blanc in 2020, finished second in Liège-Bastogne-Liège in 2019 and second in the Giro of Promises stage. He also finished 9th in the final standings.
No breakthrough with the pros occurred due to a persistent left leg injury. Last season, he already thought about stopping his career, but in the end he made a fresh start with the Lotto – Dstny coaching staff.
But there was no solution to the injury, which lasted for two years. This year he drove two races, retiring in the last of them. So Vershaev decided to end his career early, at the age of 24.
“I put off the decision for a long time in hopes of finding a solution, but two operations brought no improvement. Recent research has shown that there is no medical solution,” says Vershav.
“That’s why I made the decision to stop. Of course I wanted to race longer. It’s tough, but I’m at peace with it. I’ve fulfilled my dream of becoming a professional cyclist. The dream could have lasted a bit longer, but now a new chapter awaits in My life with new challenges.
