Movistar and Groupama FDJ have also announced their selections for the Vuelta España. The Spanish line-up will be looking to secure a good place in the final classification led by Enric Mas, while the French line-up will be hoping for a high finish led by David Gaudo.
Movistar will start in Lisbon with a strong line-up. Team leader Enric Mas always seems to excel in his home country. The Spaniard has already climbed the podium three times before. Along with him, the team also brings the 2016 eventual winner to the exit. Nairo Quintana is also part of the selection.
Movistar has plenty of options in the high mountains, with climbing goat Ainer Rubio also included in the selection. With Pelayo Sanchez, Oier Lazcano, Carlos Canal, Jorge Arcas and Nelson Oliveira, the team is well balanced. Movistar has the resources to do both the general classification and potential attack attempts.
Groupama FDJ
Groupama FDJ have also expressed their ambitions to move to Spain to take the red jersey. As for the French line-up, it is David Gaudeau who could throw himself into the fury of the classification. The 27-year-old Frenchman has not raced since the Tour de France, where he finished 65th. So it is anyone’s guess what the leader will look like.
Furthermore, the team can count on the qualities of Stefan Küng in time trials. Although the big moments are often short-lived, the Swiss hope to secure a victory in the race against time. The team is completed by Robin Thompson, Rémi Rochas, Quentin Bacher, Lorenzo Germani and Sven-Erik Byström.
