Even Vincent Kompany was puzzled. Burnley coach watched his former colleague Kevin De Bruyne provide a wonderful and historic assist against his team. It was a highlight in a relatively smooth win for City. With Amine the outsider there was another surprising red devil on the scoreboard.
Kevin De Bruyne (as captain) and Jeremy Doku for the first time together in Manchester City's starting lineup. At Burnley, Vincent Kompany must have sworn once.
Because this devilish duo had to make a spectacle.
The speedy winger made six dribbles in the first half – more than 21 other players on the pitch combined. But KDB provided the Belgian moment of the match.
When the score was 2-0, the midfielder again demonstrated an above-average football IQ by looking at the far post during a free-kick, but unexpectedly sent Alvarez wide through the middle.
Great and historical help. Because for De Bruyne it was the 104th assist in the Premier League. This places him only third in the historical rankings for assists – only Fabregas (111) and Giggs (162) are better than him.
The intruder records the rescuer
At Burnley, Kompany could only watch helplessly.
There are few levels of quality between City and Burnley. It says it all that Pep Guardiola was able to bring on Erling Haaland for De Bruyne in the 71st minute.
At that moment the score was already 3-0 to City. Alvarez also opened the scoring before the goal with a wonderful pass from KDB. Immediately after the break, Rodri closed the books completely.
In the 93rd minute, Red Devil Amin Al-Dakhil put himself on the scoreboard by scoring the goal of honor.
With this win, City continues to keep leaders Liverpool within striking distance, and Burnley remains in penultimate place, 7 points behind a safe place.
