The weather was clearly good on Christmas Eve. Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas is You” has been streamed 21,273,357 times worldwide. Not bad for a song released in 1994.
Maria also does much better than numbers 2 and 3 on the list. 2021’s “Easy on Me” ranks second, with 19,749,704 streams as of October 15, 2021, the day it was released. and “Last Christmas” from Wham! It spins outside the top three. On December 24, 2022 – the day Mariah Carey also set her record – the song was streamed to at least 19,079,817.
Two years ago, Mariah Carey had already won this record. All I Want For Christmas Is You was streamed no less than 17,223,000 times on Spotify on Christmas Day 2020. Mariah responded excitedly when she heard this record. “I know a lot of people think I make money – little secret: artists don’t get paid that much per airplay – but the real reason I’m so amazed and so grateful is that this song brings so much joy to people every year. Thank you and Merry Christmas!” I wrote on Twitter.
She set another record earlier this year. “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is the first song to top Billboard’s Hot 100 four times. The song 1994 topped the charts for the first time in 2019 and has continued to do so in the years since. In the years immediately following its release, the song never reached the top spot.
