You don’t have to miss anything from the Belgian Darts Open in the coming days. All matches can be watched live on VTM 2, or they can be followed via text message at HLN.be. The PDC European Tour will start on Friday afternoon in Wieze, with the final match taking place on Sunday evening.
What is the significance of this tournament? Wieze is not a pioneer and therefore less popular than, for example, World Matchplay. But the Belgian Darts Open has some prestige and is played on a big stage. Wieze is part of the PDC European Tour, a series of darts tournaments organized by the PDC across Europe. After those tournaments, the top 32 players (from the PDC European Tour Order) can take part in the European Darts Championship, the European Championship. This is the major.
A total of 48 players take part in Wieze: the top 16 players in the PDC ProTour Order of Merit, supported by two top-ranked Belgians (Dimitri Van den Bergh and Kim Huybrechts) and thirty qualifiers. There are four Belgians in total. On Thursday, two more non-professional Belgian players will qualify for the ‘Host Nation Qualifier’. The draw will take place on the same day. Then the game schedule is also known.
