President Biden wanted to thank Congresswoman Jackie Walorski for her contribution to the meeting during Wednesday’s conference on hunger. Biden seems to have forgotten that Walorski died in a car accident nearly two months ago.
Walorski, a Republican MP from Indiana, was one of four initiators of the Cross-Party Conference on Hunger. She and three others, including two of her staff, died in early August. After the death of Walorski, 58, the White House released a statement on behalf of the president saying he and his wife, Jill, were “shocked and saddened” by the fatal road accident.
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said Walorski was simply on her mind as President Biden praised members of Congress for their efforts in the fight against hunger during his speech. Two days later, Jean-Pierre said Biden would receive the late congressman’s family at the White House as he signed a bill naming a hospital.
