A few months ago, Napoli were on the verge of winning the national title, but the start of this football season is less rosy.
Championship creator Luciano Spalletti has left the club, and Frenchman Rudi Garcia does not seem to have the same magical skills.
Napoli lost on Sunday to Fiorentina 1-3. After 8 days of matches, it is in fifth place with 14 points, 7 points behind leaders Milan.
Under Garcia’s leadership, Napoli lost three times in 10 matches, each time to their own people. The worst start to the season since 2016-17 also puts a heavy burden on president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Yesterday, the inflammatory president did not deny that he doubted Garcia’s future in Naples. “I am a businessman and I must make the right decisions,” the Frenchman said.
The Italian press explicitly links Napoli with Antonio Conte, the former national coach and former coach of Juventus, Chelsea, Inter, Tottenham, and others. He was fired there last March, and Conte has been without an employer since then.
Conte felt compelled to respond on his social media. He added: “There are constant rumors linking me to moving to major clubs, but I repeat that I will stop for the time being and will continue to enjoy my time with my family.”
