For some fans, the stage on the tour wasn’t just legendary. After the stage, a few unlucky cyclists shared an unlikely moment with Wout van Aert, who turned out to have loafer shoes. In return, the man who helped the green jersey with a pump received an unforgettable souvenir.
Michelle Bellacci shares an unlikely story on Twitter an hour after the ride.
He says his brother suddenly punctured while descending the mountain. And who stopped to help after five minutes? Green jersey Wout van Aert on his way to the team bus at the foot of the mountain.
Then follows a striking twist. Michele Bellacci notes that liquid is coming out of Van Aert’s wheel. However, our compatriot assures that it rides without tubes and therefore cannot stand completely flat.
Another English bike tourist introduces the Van Aert pump. Accompanied by the phrase: “Wot, you are a legend.”
Then Van Aert decided to reward the helpful man with his green jacket.
Bellacci concludes his story with the summary: “What did you learn from this? Always give your bike pump to Wout Van Aert first. He may give you a great legacy in return.”
Van Aert responded in the meantime
Meanwhile, Wout van Aert also spoke of the remarkable moment. It begins with a “mechanical problem on the descent of Colonel de Granon”. “Fortunately my tubeless tires did their job. I replaced my green podium jersey with an unknown fan for some lifesaving air. Today was a good day.”
